School officials in Pleasantville are investigating an “inappropriate and unacceptable” promposal that involved students and prompted a letter to the community from High School Principal Joseph Palumbo.

The nature of the “inappropriate and unacceptable” incident has not been disclosed by officials, who cited privacy concerns. The incident did not happen on school grounds. In response, the district is teaming with community organizations to enforce “anti-bias education.”

“The students involved have been cooperative and remorseful; however, that does not in any way excuse the conduct,” Palumbo stated. “The district rejects the message that was included in the ‘promposal’ and is treating the issue with the utmost seriousness.

“While we follow the guidelines set forth in state education law and in our district Code of Conduct to address the issue, we will also use this incident as a growth opportunity.”
